What is polyurethane (PU / PUR)?
Polyurethane (PUR for short) is a synthetically produced elastic plastic that is similar to natural rubber. AU (polyester urethane) is usually used in vibration control technology. There is also the waterproof type EU (polyether urethane). PU is a synthetic polymer and is used in two variants for vibration damping:
- cellular soft plastic
- Solid soft plastic
PU has better chemical and mechanical resistance than NR (natural rubber). Due to the more complex processing – which is also reflected in the price – PU is rarely used as a 1:1 replacement for rubber-metal products. Due to the higher load-bearing capacity combined with a longer service life, PU articles are used where classic rubber elements reach their limits. The material PU is known under various brand names:
- Vulkollan ®
- Urepan ®
- Elastollan ®
- Adiprene ®
